Practically Perfect...

Last week, we had the opportunity to see the stage version of "Mary Poppins" on Broadway! It was spectacular! One song, "Practically Perfect", really caught my attention! Mary and the Banks children sing this song when Mary takes over the nanny position in their home. The phrase, "practically perfect in every way", was appropriately repeated throughout the song. While it was a delightful song, it got me thinking. What was the message of this song? Perfection? How does the word practical define/clarify that message?

Know me and you know that I over-analyze everything. As you can see above, this little song set the "cogs" in motion. Mary was aware that she was not perfection, in the true sense of the word. But, she did display a picture of perfection, a result of many years of hard work in all areas of her life. She was not perfect but constantly reaching for that goal. Her mission as a nanny was to help Jane and Michael join her in this journey.

We take this one step further with our boys by directing them to see what the Bible has to say about such matters. This direction comes in providing the structure and guidance they need to survive and thrive in this world. Does God demand perfection? Do we? While it comes across that way sometimes, our goal is to keep their "head in the game", always working towards the goal. God is there!

Carpe Diem!
